UCF Athletics Association, Inc. at the University of Central Florida, an NCAA Division I institution and Big 12 Conference member, is seeking applications for the position of Associate A.D. / Head Football Athletic Trainer. Under the leadership of the Deputy A.D. for Student-Athlete Services / SWA and direction of the head team physician, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading the administration and execution of injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and care for UCF football student-athletes. The employee's primary responsibilities will focus on the care and prevention of injuries for the football program while following Athletics, University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Collaborate with team physicians in the oversight and administration of athletic training for the football program within compliance with federal, state, NCAA, conference, university and athletics rules, regulations, as well as NATA guidelines / best practices related to student-athlete health and safety
  • Oversee and provide leadership to the football sports medicine staff (full-time, GAs, and student-trainers), to include: training and development; scheduling / assignments; training room coverage; and evaluation.  Ensures sports medicine coverage at all football related home and away team activities
  • Collaborate with team doctors regarding football student-athlete participation in competition, practice, and off-season workouts
  • Provide sports medicine training services to football student-athletes, including training room coverage and attendance at team workouts, practices, and competitions (home and away).  In collaboration with medical personnel, develops rehabilitation programs and establishes in-season and off-season schedules for football student-athletes.
  • Properly document all injuries/illnesses (including mental health) into EMR platform, and prepare timely / accurate reports / summaries (injury / illness, care and reconditioning updates, daily sports medicine records, etc.), to be communicated with coaches (including strength & conditioning coach), medical and related personnel as appropriate.
  • Effectively communicate with sport performance coaches regarding the injured student-athlete's strength and conditioning parameters and limitations associated with injury rehabilitation.
  • Ensure compliance with all prescribed rehabilitation and treatment protocols from team physicians.
  • Perform all treatments, rehabilitations, taping/bracing, and/or casting as needed.
  • Oversee the football student-athlete pre-participation physical examinations, records management, drug testing, and medical referrals.  Certifies eligibility of football student-athletes related to area of operation.
  • Coordinate medical care for all in-season and official team practices and workouts including home and away contests.
  • Educate and counsel coaching staff, student-athletes, physicians, co-workers, students, parents, media, and consultants, to include health / wellness education.
  • Represent UCFAA on local, regional, and national committees related to area of operation.

 

Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four (4) years appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six (6) years of appropriate experience.  NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer, eligibility for State of Florida Athletic Training License, and CPR and AED certification required. Prefer master's degree (or higher) and sports medicine leadership experience at the NCAA Division I level or professional sports. Strong communication, relationship building, and teamwork skills are also preferred.  Due to the nature/scope of Athletics and Athletics events, position often requires work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.  As a UCF Athletics staff member, the selected candidate will be a person of integrity and character who shares a commitment for knowing and complying with NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules as they apply to the UCF Athletics program.
